The Venus Complex: A Lyrical Exploration of the Self

 

Cody La Vada's forth-coming book will be made up of memoir, poetry, prose, essays, photography, and artwork that focus on her experiences and life as a transgender female. As more of the book is refined and completed for publication, excerpts will be made available here as part of The Venus Project.

The book in its first iteration (Face A) will document Cody's life from childhood up through her mid-twenties (1992 - 2016, respectively). If successful in its aims, there may be subsequent iterations that explore the evolving "Faces" of Cody as she continues on her life-long transitional journey.

Like The Venus Project, its companion piece, The Venus Complex, seeks to normalize the existence of trans individuals and revolutionize the way that we think about identity, sex, and gender. By providing personal narratives and brutally-honest first-hand accounts of  trans experience across various artistic formats, Cody hopes to spread awareness, education, and acceptance of transgender people, while simultaneously sharing her own story and metamorphosis with the world at large, forcing us all to interrogate everything that we thought we knew about who we are and how we express our identity.
